Just a few notes and snippets for the year now that the golf 'season' is over! The Back Badge Club had a very successful programme, with only one game 'washed away!' An average of 30 players attended each game. Charlie Stevens came overall first, with Steve (Dusty) Fogg in second position. Roy Evans took third place and Steve Knight fourth position.

Roy's team managed to help raise nearly £15,000 for Help for Heroes at the Charity day in July, Rick Vale scored a 'hole in one' on the Stinchcombe course and the Slashers team won the Burma Cup competition against the Farmers Boys at Brickhampton.

The Slashers Touring Party held an excellent week in Turkey and the photographs are on the Society web page (below) Our 2012 Back Badge Club season starts in March at the Ombersley course in Worcester. 2012 also brings our society into its tenth year with the annual meeting at Brickhampton on August 3rd.

On behalf of the team I would like to thank all those in the background who have helped to make 2011 a very successful golfing season, and thanks also go to the web master for his commitment and much appreciated assistance in allowing us to broadcast our events.
See you all next year!
Best wishes
Roy 'n Andy

SLASHERS ON TOUR BELEK-TURKEY 2011

This year our annual tour abroad took us to Belek in southern Turkey. After months of hard work and with much planning and negotiation, our tour leader Roy Evans, managed to get twenty members of the Slashers Golf Society to the hotel bar just in time for ‘last orders.’

It was a long journey but well worth it! We awoke next morning to stunning scenery and splendid views. Over the next seven days we were to play on some magnificent golf courses in luxurious surroundings. The competitive team spirit was high and we managed to play with fierce rivalry during our two major competitions, with the 61st team winning the ‘Salamanca Trophy’ competition.

The main competition was played for over four days, with Eddy Fry winning the ‘Primrose Jacket’ competition. The holiday was that good-we hope to return to the same location next year!

Our thanks go to Brian Wakfer for kindly supplying this year’s Salamanca orange golf shirt and to everyone who assisted throughout the week in various roles.

Best wishes

Roy ‘n Andy

The Slashers  Help For Heroes Day at Brickhampton Court

On Friday 22nd July the management and staff of Brickhampton Court Golf Complex opened their doors and hosted avery grand charity event in support of those men and women of our Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of our country since 9/11.

The competition organizers were formed mainly from the Slashers Golf Society. The team leader Roy Evans had managed to raise a total of 30 teams each donating £200 for their team entry.
The main event sponsor was Intelligent Armour Ltd, owned by Mr. Alex Bomberg (a former member of our regiment) who kindly donated £2,500.00.

A ‘Beat the Pro’ competition was also held on the 17th hole-along with a putting competition managed by ‘Superchip’ Alan Truscott and John Davies. Both venues raised a considerable amount.

Mr. Ray Peart, a former ex Gloster soldier who was tragically blinded during a terrorist incident in Northern Ireland was able to present the prizes at the awards ceremony. After the prize giving a grand auction was held and this raised another £3000.00 after guests generously dug deep into their pockets in support. In total, £14,267.45 was raised by guests and players at a very entertaining and moving ceremony.

Slashers Golf Society annual meeting 5th August 2011

.On Friday August 5th, 2011 the Slashers Golf Society held it's ninth annual golf competition at Brickhampton Court golf complex.
Yet again it was a very successful day and high turnout with 88 members playing both a Stableford and Medal competition in glorious sunshine.

It was also another very busy day and as usual 'ran like clockwork' thanks to all the supporting team who worked very hard behind the scenes to make the day a great success. The staff of Brickhampton 'did us proud' once again in presenting a course in tip top condition in a very friendly and cordial atmosphere.

Following a delicious buffet, this year's guest of honour Col PJ Durrant MBE kindly presented the winners with their trophies and awards.

It was a memorable finish to a memorable day!! Both Roy and I wish to thank all the team once again for their generous support and hope to see you all again next year, on Friday August 3rd 2012.
Best wishes to you all
Andy Lewis
